Warren Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation secures $2.4 Million in FEMA funding for storm and tornado damage restoration

Jun 9, 2023 | 7:18 AM

FRANKFORT – Warren Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation has been granted FEMA approval for over $2.4 million in funding to address property damage resulting from severe storms, flooding, and tornadoes that occurred between December 10-11, 2021.

During this period, a tornado outbreak caused significant destruction to Warren Rural Electric Cooperative’s infrastructure throughout its jurisdiction. The damaged property consisted of electrical poles, transformers, conductors, miscellaneous anchors, wires, and associated hardware.

To facilitate the restoration of the power distribution system to its pre-disaster state, functionality, and capacity, FEMA approved specific allocations. These included $450,509 for workers’ regular hours and overtime, $84,159 for equipment, $640,220 for materials, and $1,512,460 for contract and mutual aid.

Under FEMA’s Public Assistance program, cost-sharing is implemented. Given the extensive damage caused by the storm, President Biden authorized a reimbursement of 90% of federal funding for this project. All work and expenses were carried out between December 11, 2021, and March 22, 2022.
