Glasgow News 1
Glasgow hosted three film productions this summer as the Glasgow-Barren County Tourism Office recruited filmmakers to support local businesses, according to tourism Executive Director MacLean Lessenberry. Visiting production workers patronized downtown businesses and explored area attractions during their stays.
The productions included a romantic comedy featuring Madelaine Petsch, “Out of the Ashes” with Aaron Eckhart and “Twilight of the Dead” with Kate Beckinsale. Lessenberry discussed the visits during an interview on Coffee and Conversation with Todd Steenbergen.
Lessenberry said the office’s focus is the business generated while productions are in town, rather than primarily attracting future visitors who recognize Glasgow on screen.
“But the economic impact for our small businesses is truly the main goal behind what we are doing,” Lessenberry said.
Local businesses serving visiting film workers included The Hive and Chief Comics on the square. Lessenberry said production visitors became regular customers at the comic store and took cave tours and went zip lining on their days off.
“Out of the Ashes” brought filming to downtown Glasgow and locations out in the county. Lessenberry said it marked Eckhart’s second time filming in the area.
