Dwight Stovall, Scottsville

Oct 27, 2026 | 10:36 AM

Dwight Stovall, fondly known to many as “Duzzer,” passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, October 23, 2026, at the age of 80. An Allen County native, he was the son of the late Hubert Roy Stovall and Lorene “Dean” Holder Stovall. Dwight leaves behind a rich legacy rooted in faith, family, community, and an enduring, lifelong devotion to the game of baseball.

For 58 years, Dwight dedicated his life to volunteering through Youth Inc. at Fred Hale Park, working tirelessly to ensure every local child had the opportunity to step onto the diamond and play. Coaching was a passion that burned brightly until his final days. On and off the field, he shaped generations of young players through his wisdom, energy, and steady encouragement, instilling lifelong values of teamwork, perseverance, and respect.

Throughout his distinguished coaching career, Dwight led his teams to numerous Western Kentucky Cal Ripken district championships and runner-up finishes. Among his proudest moments on the field were capturing the Western Kentucky Cal Ripken 12U State Championship in 2000, finishing as the 10U State Runner-Up in 2011, and winning the prestigious East Frankfort Kiwanis Baseball Tournament in 2018—an annual tradition he looked forward to and cherished every summer. The countless ballplayers he mentored over nearly six decades will forever carry his guidance in their hearts.

Among his many family bonds, Dwight shared a truly extraordinary relationship with his grandson, Braden Hughes. Braden was his buddy and stood by his side through thick and thin. Always just a phone call away, Braden spent countless nights by his Pa’s side in the hospital, offering unwavering support, care, and devotion without ever a single complaint.

In addition to his parents, Dwight was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gay Nell Stovall.

He is survived by his wife, Tommie Stovall; his children: Devin Stovall (Chelsea) of Scottsville, Dustin Stovall (Bri) of Mississippi, Dwight Stovall Jr. of Scottsville, Tracy Blankenship of Arkansas, Tonia Spivey of Scottsville, Laura Rutledge (Stephen) of Scottsville, and Ina Knudson (Gabriel) of Fountain Run; and his cherished grandchildren: Braden Hughes, Kane Hughes, Lincoln Stovall, Wren Stovall, Micah Stovall, Kelly Stovall, Beckham Stovall, Daniel Blankenship, Miranda Blankenship, Autumn Blankenship, Barton Rutledge, Caden Elmore, and Ty Elmore.

Dwight developed a deep desire to attend church and draw near to the Lord. Above all else, he gave his family and loved ones the ultimate comfort by leaving them with his clear and triumphant testimony: “I am going to Heaven!”

Though his presence will be deeply missed, Dwight’s family takes great peace in knowing he is now in his heavenly home. His spirit will endure through his family, his friends, and the generations of ballplayers whose lives were forever changed because he was in their dugout.

Dwight, Your legacy lives on, both on and off the baseball field, and you will be dearly missed.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at T.W. Crow & Son Funeral Home with entombment to follow at Allen County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 27 from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and resume Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until the funeral hour all at the funeral home.
