Glasgow intersection to remain all-way stop as signal removal approaches

Glasgow News 1

The intersection of U.S. 31-EX, also known as Race Street, and Front Street in Glasgow will remain an all-way stop following a completed state evaluation. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 says the traffic signal is scheduled for removal Wednesday, Oct. 7.

The cabinet evaluated whether an all-way stop would meet traffic flow needs at the Barren County intersection. Officials say the completed review confirmed preliminary data showing traffic counts no longer met federal guidelines for a traffic signal.

The signal was switched to flashing red when the evaluation began in April. Stop signs and message boards were installed to alert motorists to the change in traffic control.

A utility company’s work prompted the review. The company was moving lines to new poles, which would require the traffic signals to be relocated.

Before beginning the evaluation, the cabinet collected preliminary traffic data at the intersection. Those counts prompted officials to examine an all-way stop as an alternative to the signal.

The completed evaluation supports keeping the all-way stop rather than relocating the signal, according to the cabinet. Motorists using Race Street and Front Street will continue to encounter an all-way stop after the signal is removed.
