STAFF REPORT
Glasgow News 1
Glasgow’s Public Safety Committee has established a 30-day grace period for the city’s newly adopted sign ordinance, with full enforcement scheduled to begin Nov. 2, according to a city press release. The city is also offering residents free help locating public rights of way on specific properties.
The ordinance took effect Sept. 28. The release says signs placed in rights of way, or otherwise not complying with the ordinance, became subject to removal and fines as of that date. However, the grace period allows residents time to remove any noncomplying signs.
The committee addressed the ordinance during a special meeting Oct. 1. It was the only item on the meeting’s agenda, according to the release.
At that meeting, the committee established the grace period to give sign owners time to remove their signs and get them out of public rights of way. The release emphasizes that the law will be fully enforced Nov. 2.
Residents who are unsure where the right of way lies on a particular piece of property can contact the Department of Public Works. The city says the department will assist with locating it at no charge.
