Shirley Thompson Huff, age 80, of Horse Cave, Ky, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2026 at the Hospice House of Southern Kentucky.
She was a native of Cub Run Kentucky. Shirley worked with Home Health of Hart County, where she helped many people. She farmed for many years, operating the family dairy farm. One of her favorite jobs was Richardson’s Carpet and Furniture, where she got to work with her life-long best-friend, Anita Richardson. Shirley was great at and enjoyed many things, from reading, gardening, cooking, to singing; something she won many awards for in talent shows in her teenage years. She loved her garden, it was always perfectly manicured and you could see the love and hard work she put into it. Shirley loved her family, she was the best wife, mother, and grandmother anyone could ask for.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, J. Steven Huff; her son, Don Higdon; her parents, Fred and Thelma Thompson; one brother, Charles Thompson, and his wife Faye.
She is survived by her two children, Carnessa Ottelin and Eric Higdon; two step-children, Isaac Huff (Jennifer) and Joel Huff (Beth); 5 grandchildren, Donovan Higdon, Brinley Walters (Keaton), Chandler Huff, Bryson Huff, and Wyatt Huff; three brothers, Ralph Thompson (Reva), Ronnie Thompson (Jan), and Lee Vaughn Thompson (Kaye).
Funeral services will be held at Winn Funeral Home at 12:00 PM on Saturday, October 3, 2026 with burial to follow in the Horse Cave Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Winn Funeral Home from 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Friday, October 2, 2026 and from 9:00 AM until time of service on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Hospice of Southern Kentucky. Donations be be dropped off at Winn Funeral Home.
