Katie Elizabeth Parrish was born on May 3, 1941, in Park City, Kentucky, the beloved daughter of the late Comer Parrish and Helen Mae Wood Parrish. She was a proud graduate of Ralph Bunche High School and Kentucky State University.
Katie dedicated her life to nurturing and shaping young minds. She worked for Knowledge Nook for 14 years and Little Treasures Learning Center for 28 years. Her love for children went far beyond teaching ABCs and 123s—Katie taught manners, respect, kindness, and the importance of treating others well. Her influence reached generations.
A lifelong and devoted member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Park City, Katie was honored as the oldest member of the congregation. She loved attending church, and even throughout her illness, she never forgot her church family. Her favorite songs—Near the Cross, Going Up Yonder, and Walk Around Heaven—were reflections of her faith and the peace she carried in her heart.
Katie was wholeheartedly dedicated to her four sons, raising them to be strong, independent men. Her love guided them through every season of life. She cared deeply for many and helped anyone she could. Her days were filled with watching Gunsmoke, Golden Girls, Sanford & Son, Food Network, and Judge Judy, and she enjoyed spending time on her tablet. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday, and she looked forward each year to preparing dinner—there was always room at her table.
As the sun began to shine, the son called Katie’s name. She joined those who preceded her in death: her parents; her great‑granddaughter, Raeylin Parrish; and her siblings, Margaret (Homer) Massey, Stanley Parrish, Trelvie Parrish, and Roger Parrish.
Katie leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and compassion. Cherishing her memory are her four devoted sons: Dewayne (Jamie) Parrish, David (Michelle) Parrish, Christopher (Racquel) Parrish, and Edwin (Bria) Grace; her cherished grandchildren, Kristopher Brown, LaKrissa Halcomb‑Fields, Justin Stigall, Tacarra Barnes, Parrisha Parrish, Jazzmine Parrish, Tayler Hunter, Jordan Parrish, Tyler Grace, and Jalessa Parrish; along with several great‑grandchildren and great‑great‑grand-children. She is also survived by her sister‑in‑law, Minister Uretha Parrish; her bonus children, Michael Pillow and Melissa Sublett; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Katie’s memory will forever be a blessing.
