Bowling Green ran away with the team title at the first round of the Boys’ State Golf Tournament on Tuesday in Bardstown.
Meanwhile, Glasgow’s Griffin Jackson shot 1-under par at Maywood and finished tied for eighth as an individual. That round was good enough to qualify him for the state tournament finals next week at Bowling Green Country Club.
Lemuel Wright of Breckinridge County and Johnny Brown of Bowling Green each shot 5-under par 67 to lead the pack.
The Purples as a team shot 3-under par, which was six strokes better than second place Bethlehem. McCracken County finished third at 4-over par. The top three teams and the next 15 individuals not on one of those teams will play at Bowling Green Country Club beginning Tuesday, Oct. 6. The finals are two rounds in consecutive days.
Barren County’s JP Ross shot an 83 and tied for 65th in the first round of state. He did not make the cut to next week’s finals.
