The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) is emphasizing the importance of staying connected, especially for low-income residents, during Digital Connectivity and Lifeline Awareness Week from September 13 to 19. The PSC is highlighting the Lifeline Program, which offers discounts on voice and broadband services.
The Lifeline Program provides essential support to help low-income consumers access communication networks that are crucial for finding jobs, accessing health care services, and calling for help in emergencies. Eligible consumers can receive up to $9.25 per month off their broadband service bill, or bundled phone and broadband service, and up to $5.25 for voice-only service. Residents of qualifying Tribal lands can receive discounts up to $34.25 per month.
To apply for Lifeline benefits, individuals can apply online, request a mailed application, or download a copy from the Lifeline Support website. The PSC, which operates under the Energy and Environment Cabinet, regulates over 1,100 utilities in Kentucky.
