Food Lion associates are set to give the Glasgow-Barren County Boys & Girls Club food pantry a significant facelift.
Food Lion Feeds officials say employees will volunteer at the club’s pantry on Monday, Sept. 7, starting at 9 a.m.
The project is part of Food Lion Feeds’ annual Great Pantry Makeover, which takes place every September in recognition of Hunger Action Month.
The local boys and girls club, supported by Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland, is one of 33 food pantries being enhanced through the initiative this year.
During the event, volunteers are expected to upgrade the pantry space with new shelving, storage and other organizational improvements designed to help the site serve its community more efficiently.
Food Lion Feeds reports that associates will also load in donated shelf-stable food to restock the pantry, supporting neighbors who are experiencing food insecurity.
According to Food Lion Feeds, this year’s Great Pantry Makeover represents an investment of about $190,000 in renovations across participating sites, with each makeover averaging about $6,000.
The company also plans to donate more than 92,000 pounds of shelf-stable food to pantries involved in the program.
Organizers say the Glasgow-Barren County project reflects an ongoing effort to strengthen partnerships with local hunger-relief organizations and highlight the impact of hunger during Hunger Action Month.
