Curtis Lee Wood, Alvaton

Curtis Lee Wood, 78, of Alvaton, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Curtis was born on September 17, 1947, in Glasgow, Kentucky. Following his graduation from Temple Hill High School, he proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After returning home, Curtis continued his life of service by joining the Kentucky State Police. During his distinguished career, he earned the respect of his fellow officers and the communities he faithfully served.

While serving with the Kentucky State Police, Curtis continued his commitment to his country by joining the Kentucky National Guard. He was later called to active duty and deployed in support of Operation Desert Storm.

Following his retirement from the Kentucky State Police, Curtis continued serving others through the Butler County Sheriff’s Office. He worked as a sheriff’s deputy and school resource officer and taught the D.A.R.E. program, positively influencing the lives of many young people.

Curtis was a member of the Kentucky State Police Professional Association, where he served as Sergeant-at-Arms. He also served as President of Kentucky State Police Retirees, Operation Pride, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Outside of his career, Curtis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. To those who knew and loved him, he was much more than the uniforms he wore or the titles he held. Curtis was a man of faith and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Bowling Green. He believed in doing what was right, standing up for others, and taking care of his family.

Curtis is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Wood; daughter, Amy Key (Mark); son, Josh Wood (Amber); stepdaughters, Lisa Grimes (Roddy) and Melissa Anastario (Bobby); grandson, Landon Key (Haleigh); granddaughter, Willow Wood; stepgrandson, Matthew Grimes; stepgranddaughters, Taylor Keen (Andrew) and Emilee Grimes (Kam); step-great-grandson, Brody Grimes; brother, Mike Wood (Linda); and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Gladys Wood; sisters, Judy Wood Houchens and Frankie Wood; brother, Jerry Wood; and brother-in-law, Jimmy Houchens.

Curtis’s legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the people he protected, and the family and community he faithfully devoted his life to serving.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Foundry Christian Community Center.

The family will accept visitors from 3-8PM on Wednesday, August 26 at J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 9-11AM with a service at 11AM. Interment will follow in Bowling Green Gardens.
