Callie Whobrey Ashley, a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished daughter, treasured sister, and loyal friend, was called to her eternal home on Saturday, July 4, 2026. A lifelong resident of Edmonson County, Callie was born on May 7, 1989, to Jimmy and Lisa Whobrey, who lovingly nurtured the kind, compassionate heart that became her greatest gift to everyone who knew her. On October 5, 2025, she married the love of her life and best friend, Brandon Ashley, beginning a beautiful new chapter filled with love, faith, and dreams for the future.
To know Callie was to experience genuine kindness. She possessed a heart of gold, a true servant’s spirit, and an unwavering desire to help others. Selfless by nature, she consistently placed the needs of those around her before her own, offering encouragement, compassion, and love without expecting anything in return. Her beautiful smile, gentle spirit, and caring heart left an unforgettable impression on everyone blessed enough to cross her path. A proud 2007 graduate of Edmonson County High School, Callie faithfully served as the Chief Finance Officer for the Edmonson County School District, where she genuinely loved her work family and found great fulfillment in serving the students, families, and community she held so dear. She took great pride in knowing her work made a difference and considered it a privilege to give back to the county she proudly called home. Dedicated to professional excellence, Callie was a valued member of the Kentucky Association of School Business Officials, earned certification through the University of Kentucky as a School Finance Manager, and was a Certified Facility Manager through the Kentucky School Plant Management Association. Her servant’s heart extended far beyond her profession as she also faithfully served as treasurer of the Edmonson County Youth Soccer League, where she generously gave of her time in support of the children and families of her community. Whether at work, through volunteer service, or in her everyday life, Callie lived with integrity, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others.
Her greatest foundation was her faith. Callie was saved on April 28, 1998, at South Union General Baptist Church while the congregation was singing, “The Prettiest Flowers Will Be Blooming.” From that day forward, she remained a faithful and devoted member, striving each day to live out her faith through her words, her actions, and the love she showed others. Her life beautifully reflected her favorite scripture, Matthew 5:16: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Her light truly shined brightly, and its warmth will continue to be felt by all who knew and loved her.
While Callie treasured many blessings in life, nothing compared to the joy she found in being a mother. Her greatest love, and most precious gift was her beloved son, Charlie Dean Beliles, affectionately known as her “Buddy Bear.” He was the center of her world, and every decision she made was rooted in her love for him. She had an extraordinary ability to turn ordinary days into treasured memories, filling his life with laughter, adventures, unconditional love, and countless reminders of how deeply he was cherished. Though Dean is only nine years old, the love, values, and unwavering devotion his mother poured into him will remain with him forever, guiding his heart throughout his life. Callie also lovingly embraced Brandon’s children, Hallie Sue and Layne, as her own. She treasured the family they were building together and looked forward to the many memories yet to come. She found joy in traveling, capturing life’s beautiful moments through photography, and expressing the thoughts of her heart through writing. Whether behind the camera, with a pen in hand, or simply spending time with those she loved, Callie found beauty in life’s simplest blessings.
She leaves to honor and cherish her memory— her beloved husband, Brandon Ashley of Sunfish; her precious son, Dean Beliles of Sunfish; her loving parents, Jimmy and Lisa Whobrey of Sunfish; her brother, Shannon Whobrey of Sunfish; her cherished stepchildren, Hallie Ashley and Layne Ashley of Chalybeate; her grandparents, Cal and Jewel Dean Whobrey of Shrewsbury; her father-and mothers-in-law, Tim and Crystal Ashley of Brownsville, and Jill Duvall of Sunfish; her sister-in-law, Brittany Sowders (Derek); her uncles, Eddie Whobrey (Kaye), Timmy Whobrey, and Chuck Thompson; her special friends, Jason and Amber Priddy; along with several cousins, niece, nephews, treasured friends, coworkers, church family, and countless others whose lives were forever touched by her remarkable love and beautiful spirit. She was preceded in death her grandparents, Charles Thompson and Maxine Welch and cousin, Charity Mastin. Although her time on earth was far too brief, the legacy of love, faith, kindness, and compassion she leaves behind is immeasurable. She made this world brighter simply by being in it, and her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9, at South Union General Baptist Church. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, 10 am until 7 p.m. Wednesday, and 9 until 11 a.m. Thursday.
