Tourism delivered another strong year for Glasgow–Barren County in 2025, with visitors spending an estimated $117.5 million locally. According to state tourism figures shared by Governor Andy Beshear and the Kentucky Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet, that spending helped support hundreds of local jobs and contributed to a record-setting year for the industry statewide. The new report shows tourism in Barren County supported 930 jobs in 2025.
Tourism-related employment generated $24.9 million in labor income and produced $9.5 million in state and local tax revenue, underscoring the sector’s role as a major piece of the local economy. In overall visitor spending, Barren County ranked 18th out of Kentucky’s 120 counties. Local officials say that performance reflects the Glasgow–Barren County area’s long history as a tourism destination and its continued focus on growth.
“The hospitality industry continues to be a strong piece of our local economy,” said MacLean Lessenberry, executive director of the Glasgow–Barren County Tourist and Convention Commission. “We’ve built a strong foundation through years of growth and collaboration with other players in the region, and we’re eager to carry that momentum into the future,” Lessenberry said. Local tourism leaders are focused on expanding their reach, enhancing the visitor experience and further establishing Glasgow–Barren County as a must-visit destination in Kentucky, particularly for outdoor adventure opportunities, according to Lessenberry.
State tourism officials say the strong local results are part of an even larger growth story across Kentucky. Governor Beshear recently announced that tourism in Kentucky generated $14.6 billion in total economic impact in 2025, surpassing the state’s previous record for the fourth consecutive year. The report on 2025 tourism performance was produced for the Kentucky Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet by Tourism Economics, the Kentucky Department of Tourism’s research partner.
