Lindsey Wilson University has promoted longtime assistant and Metcalfe County graduate Terran Duncan to head coach of the women’s basketball program, according to the school. Duncan becomes the program’s fifth head coach and succeeds 37-year veteran John Wethington, who has been named assistant to the president for athletics development. Duncan described the opportunity to lead the Blue Raiders as her dream job. She spent the last 11 seasons as Wethington’s assistant coach and was named the 2025-26 Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year.

Duncan, an Edmonton, Kentucky, native and former standout player for Lindsey Wilson from 2004-08, has deep roots with the program. She scored 1,694 career points, the sixth most in school history, and grabbed 640 rebounds, ninth most in program history. During her junior and senior seasons, Duncan helped the Blue Raiders win back-to-back Mid-South Conference regular-season titles. She was a two-time NAIA Honorable Mention All-American, a three-time Mid-South All-Conference selection and the 2006-07 Mid-South Conference Player of the Year. Her connection to the school extends beyond the court. Duncan said Lindsey Wilson had a big impact on her life and described the campus community as a family where people care about students’ success.

“I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity to continue the legacy that Coach Wethington helped establish,” Duncan said in the university’s announcement. She added that becoming a head coach at her alma mater is “super special.” Lindsey Wilson Athletic Director Willis Pooler said Duncan is well-prepared to step into the top job. “She is passionate about the Lindsey Wilson mission and our student-athletes,” Pooler said, noting that she has shown the leadership and skills to carry on the program’s success.

Duncan plans to maintain the program’s tradition of a fast-paced offense and strong defense. She said she wants her teams to score early in the shot clock while continuing the Blue Raiders’ reputation for tough defense and competitive play. Academics will remain a priority under her leadership. Duncan noted that the six rising seniors on the 2026-27 roster hold a cumulative 3.60 grade point average, and she emphasized her goal of producing graduates who are great athletes, good students and high-character people.

Before returning to Lindsey Wilson as an assistant coach, Duncan gained experience as a staff assistant at St. Catharine College and as an assistant coach with the University of Pikeville women’s basketball program. She holds a biology degree from Lindsey Wilson and a master’s degree in sport management from Morehead State University.
