Glen Proffitt, age 92, of Monroe County, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at Signature Health Care of Monroe County. Born on May 17, 1934, in Monroe County, Kentucky, Glen was the son of the late Claude and Gladys Proffitt. Glen married the love of his life, Jo Nelle Proffitt, in July 1961. They shared 43 wonderful years of marriage before her passing.
Glen attended Rocky Point School, a one-room schoolhouse in the Emberton Community of Monroe County, before graduating from Tompkinsville High School in 1954. During his school years, he served as manager of both the football and basketball teams. Following graduation, he attended Falls Business School for 18 months. At the age of 22, Glen answered the call to serve his country, volunteering for military service in France from 1956 until 1959, where he attained the rank of Private First Class. After returning home, Glen worked for Automobile Electric Service before beginning a long career with Houchens Industries in the grocery department. He retired in 1996 after 22 years of dedicated service. Glen was a longtime member of the Tompkinsville Church of Christ. In his leisure time, Glen enjoyed playing bingo, attending church, working word search puzzles, and cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats.
Glen is survived by his son, Wendell Proffitt, of Tompkinsville, KY; one granddaughter, Wendi Jo Shirley; and several nieces and nephews. Other than his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Mark Proffitt; step granddaughter, Bethany Boston; brothers, Evans, Ezra, Louis, Rex and Wendell; sisters, Maerene Bartley, Ilen Proffitt, and Vivian Gearlds, and six half-siblings.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 18 at 1:00 p.m. at Yokley Trible Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Monroe County Memorial Lawn, with military rites performed by Glasgow DAV Chapter 20. Visitation will be held Thursday morning after 10:00 a.m. until service time.
