Mrs. Mona Deckard, affectionately known to all of us as “Mom,” passed away peacefully and spiritually on May 16, 2026, at the age of 90. She left this world from the warmth and comfort of her granddaughter’s home in the loving presence of her daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter. Her passing was a testament to the gentle and natural way she lived her life, surrounded by love.
Born on August 19, 1935, in the picturesque town of Colorado Springs Colorado, Mona was the beloved daughter of Shea and Elloine Lois Lindamood, who both preceded her in death and are laid to rest at Little Big Horn in Montana. She is also reunited in peace with her husband of sixty years, Radford Leon Deckard, whose love was throughout their journey on earth.
Mona’s life was a vibrant tapestry woven with the threads of family, faith and community. Her greatest joy was found in her family, who were the center of her world. She is survived by her loving children, Lois E. Brandon and husband Rickie, and Wayne Deckard and wife Sabrina, grandchildren, Shane Deckard, Monica Chaney and husband Luke, Mack Brandon and wife Kelly, and Jessica Short and husband Justin.
Mona was further blessed with eight great-grandchildren, Madison Turner, Emily Chaney, Levi Brandon, Caroline Chaney, Lenny Brandon, Ellie Grace Short, Leon Brandon, and Jace Short, they all brought her boundless joy and pride.
Educated in bookkeeping, Mona dedicated over fifty years to her work at Genesco and Stitches, Inc. where she was not only a colleague, but a beloved member of the Stitches family. Her departure from work was not by choice, but by necessity as her health demanded she retire. Her colleagues remember her for her unwavering dedication and the warmth she brought into her workplace.
A pillar of her spiritual community, Mona was an active member of the Gamaliel United Methodist Church. Her musical talents were as much a part of her family as her faith; she taught herself to play the organ and often shared her love of music with her cherished friend Deborah Bentley-Brown.
Mona’s life was enriched by simple joys whether it was putting puzzles together, reading a good book, or spending time shopping and eating with her daughter Lois. Family gatherings, birthday parties, and holiday celebrations were precious moments she cherished, always eager to be surrounded by loved ones.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, May 22, 2026, from Bartley & Sons Gamaliel Chapel, with burial to follow in the Biles Cemetery. Pastor Leigh Johnson and
Bro. Danny Pace will officiate the service. Visitation will be held after 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, and again on Friday morning after 8:00 a.m. until the service time at 11:00 a.m.
The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Gamaliel Volunteer Fire Department, a cause close to Mona’s heart.
