Mrs. Janet Copass, age 71, of Tompkinsville, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at her home. Janet was born in Tompkinsville on January 8, 1955, the daughter of the late Rex D. and Delma Ree (Emberton) Sheffield. She was a 1973 graduate of Tompkinsville High School and a member of Beautiful Home Missionary Baptist Church for over fifty years. Janet retired from the Monroe County Board of Education as a teacher’s assistant at Joe Harrison Carter and Tompkinsville Elementary; after retiring from the school system, she worked at Turner’s Flowers. Janet was known for her outgoing personality and her love for all people.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-one years, David Copass, and her mother-in-law, Ruth Marie Copass, both of Tompkinsville. Cousins: Jo Ann Birge and husband Roger of Sulphur Lick, Gary Hall of Tompkinsville, and Tommy Dillehay and wife Kathy of Lafayette, Tennessee. One aunt, Nadine Woods of Indiana, five sisters-in-law: Neva Smith and husband Robert, Carolyn Morris and husband Stoney, of Tompkinsville, Janet Rogan and husband Joe, of Glasgow, Debra Hale and husband Dwayne, and Beth Curtis and husband Dennis of Tompkinsville. A host of nieces, nephews, and extended family also survive.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law, William Lankford Copass.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from Bartley & Sons Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, with burial to follow in the Beautiful Home Cemetery. Bro. Donald Taylor will officiate the services.
Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday morning after 9:00 a.m. until the service time of 1:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beautiful Home Cemetery or to the Poplar Log Cemetery.
