Darel Ray Young, age 84, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, in his home surrounded by his family. He was born on June 10, 1941, to the late Homer and Novis Young. Darel was a member of the Richardsville Church of Christ. He graduated from Richardsville High School, Class of 1959.
Early in his career, he was self-employed as a used car dealer before going to work with Aramark in 1975, for whom he was division manager when he retired due to health issues in 1987. He then worked together with his wife buying and selling antiques all over the East Coast, eventually settling down with their own shop, Emma’s Antiques, in Smiths Grove, Kentucky. Darel enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren and was an avid NASCAR fan.
Along with his parents, Darel was preceded in death by his sisters, Wanda Pennington and Wilma Blankenship, and his brother, David Young; and nephews, Mark, Kenneth, and Gary, and niece AnnaJean.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Emma; his two sons, Kelvin (Donna) and Kerry (Lisa); his four grandchildren, Korey (Jennifer), Harrison (Kasey), Mailey (Barton), and Allie (Rett); five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at the J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Thursday, May 7, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, and again on Friday beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
