Sterling Gilbert, 85 of Knob Lick, Kentucky for 56 years and presently of Glasgow Kentucky passed away Tuesday, April 28th, 2026 surrounded by his family. Sterling was born in Jackson County Kentucky, May 10, 1940 to the late Benjamin Harrison Gilbert and Cora Lee May Gilbert. He was also proceeded in death by one son Ricky Marvin Gilbert, 8 Brothers, Orville Gilbert, Oscar Gilbert, Everett Gilbert, Olen Gilbert, BJ Gilbert, Virgil Gilbert, Theodore Gilbert, Conley Gilbert and 1 Sister Jacqueline Gilbert Cook.
Survivors include his loving wife of almost 64 years, Wilma Ruth Blankenship Gilbert of Glasgow, Kentucky, 2 children, Susan Simmons (Randy)of Glasgow, Kentucky, and Brian Lee Gilbert of Knob Lick, Kentucky. Extended family: Melinda Poynter, Melissa Proffitt, and Paula Huffman of Glasgow, Ky. Four grandchildren: Brooke Smith(Garrett), Glasgow, Kentucky; Brie Gossett (Josey) of Cave City, Kentucky; August, Gilbert, and Ember Lee Gilbert, both of Glasgow, Kentucky; three great-grandchildren: Laurel, Livie, and Lilly Sterling. One sister, Mary Lou, Marcum (Art )of London, Kentucky.
Sterling and Wilma moved to their farm at Knoblick in 1968, where he was a successful farmer/logger, raising tobacco, grains, and some of the best watermelons in the country. Sterling enjoyed Attending Antique shows with Wilma, picking up a guitar, fishing, hunting, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as they brought him great joy.
Funeral will be 2:00 pm Sunday, May 3, 2026, at the Hatcher & Saddler Funeral Home with burial in the Gilbert Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Saturday and after 9:00 am Sunday until the time for the funeral.
