Weather delayed the first meeting of Glasgow and Warren East in baseball by two days. When the game was played Wednesday at East it was a defensive battle that favored the home team, 1-0.
The teams played a 0-0 tie through six-and-a-third innings before the Raiders scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to end the game.
In that inning, Glasgow made a pair of defensive errors that allowed Warren East to put runners at first and second. The runners moved up a base on a ground out, but then a single drove in the game-ender.
The Scotties’ best shot at scoring a run came in the top of the fourth inning. Keaton Haynes led off with a single. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Steven Garrett. After a strike out, Braylen Caldwell drew a walk to put runners at first and second. But a strike out ended the threat.
Carter Hodges pitched five-and-two-thirds innings. He allowed only two hits, struck out 11, but did walk seven. The defense behind him erased all of those free bases.
Garett Shields closed the final two-thirds of an inning — he entered the game in the sixth inning — and allowed one hit and walked one.
Haynes, Garrett and JP Pitcock each had a hit for the Scotties.
The loss dropped Glasgow to 1-2 in 15th District action and 14-13 overall. These teams meet again Thursday at 7 p.m. at Richardson Stadium in Glasgow.
