Over three-quarters of a million dollars are coming to Barren County roads, according to Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd.

At the April 21 Barren County Fiscal Court meeting, Byrd announced that the Kentucky General Assembly had allotted Barren County a “large amount” of Local Assistance Road Program money that will be used to pave portions of Beckton-Rocky Hill, Hollow and Old Mundfordville roads.

“[State Representative Steve Riley and State Senator David Givens] made sure that Barren County got a large amount of LARP money,” Byrd said during the April 21 meeting.

Byrd said $271,000 was allocated for Beckton-Rocky Hill Road, $136,000 for Hollow Road and $368,000 for Old Munfordville Road.

“That’s a huge amount of money to put into paving,” Byrd said. “We [submitted] six or seven roads based on high travel demand and [legislators] selected those three. It’s a large amount we’ve received.”

The three paving project are not expected to begin until the fall as Barren County will not receive the funds until July — the beginning of the next fiscal year, according to Byrd. Bid packets are also expected to go out after the projects are discussed in a transportation committee meeting, Byrd added.
