Barren County exploded for nine runs in the third inning Friday en route to a 15-5 win over visiting Hazard.

The baseball game was knotted at 1-1 headed into the bottom of the third when Jax Vincent started the Trojans’ rally with a lead-off double. Vincent scored from second on a sacrifice fly to center field by Jordan Harris.

The next eight runs came with two outs. Jaxon Pierce drew a walk to reach base, then a line out left him there.

Cameron Crawford drove Pierce in with a double, then Skylar Potter drew a walk. Bracy Faught entered to run for Potter, who was pitching for the Trojans.

During Price Thompson’s at-bat, Crawford stole third, then scored when the pitcher was called for a balk. That moved Faught to second. Thompson was eventually hit by a pitch. Uhles entered to run for Thompson.

Colten Wilson next drew a walk and loaded the bases. Cash McGuire followed and hit a ball to first base that was misplayed. He reached safely and Uhles and Faught both scored on the error.

Vincent came back to the plate and slapped a single that drove in both McGuire and Wilson.

Harris and Pierce both reached to load the bases. Coffey drove in Vincent with a single then Harris scored with Crawford was hit by a pitch.

The Trojans led the third inning with a 10-1 lead.

Hazard got back to within five runs, 10-5, in the top of the fifth, but Barren scored five runs in the bottom of the inning to end the game on the run rule.

Potter pitched four-and-a-third innings. He allowed six hits, walked one and struck out six. Dylan Poynter closed the final two-thirds of an inning. He allowed no hits and walked two.

The Trojans piled up 11 hits in the game. Vincent led with three, including a double, while Crawford nailed two doubles. Coffey had two hits, and Potter slapped a double.
