Barren County was one of 1,455 United States counties that had an uninsured rate below 10 percent in 2023, and one of 194 counties that experienced a decrease compared to the year prior.
On July 31, the U.S. Census Bureau released data gathered by the Small Area Health Insurance Estimates program that shows the rate of individuals 65 and under without some form of health insurance across the country’s 3,143 counties.
Based on the program’s numbers Barren County uninsured rate for 2023 was 7.4 percent, which is a decrease from the 7.7 percent reported in 2022. The highest uninsured rate in Barren County was in 2010 that had a 19.2 percent, according to the program.
The country’s uninsured rate for 2023 was 9.5 percent and Kentucky’s was 6.4 percent.
Barren County exceeded both the state and national averages in insured individuals that were 93.6 percent and 90.5 percent respectively.
