GLASGOW – The Scotties allowed two kickoffs to be returned for touchdowns in their 21-14 loss to Adair County Thursday night at Hank Royse Stadium.
The first of two came on the game’s opening kickoff when WR Solomon Stonebraker returned the ball 75 yards to the house to take an early 7-0 lead. QB Easton Jessie then connected with Stonebraker for a 37-yard touchdown after a Glasgow turnover on downs, making it 14-0. Glasgow responded with a 13-yard touchdown pass from QB Hudson Gumm to WR Jeremiah Moore just before halftime. However, Adair County regained momentum as WR Aiden Smith returned the ensuing kickoff 80 yards, extending their lead to 21-7. Glasgow added a late touchdown in the fourth quarter with a 64-yard pass from Gumm to WR Jaylen Bradley.
Glasgow finished the game with 211 total yards, 83 on the ground and 128 through the air, while picking up 8 first downs and turning the ball over twice. Glasgow’s defense allowed 194 total yards, 157 on the ground and 37 through the air, while allowing the Indians to pick up 9 first downs and getting one turnover.
“Those two kickoffs were killer, it broke our backs,” said head coach Jeff Garmon. “It’s tough and we knew they had pulled everyone up [on the second kickoff TD], but we’ve got to break down and do a better job tackling.” Check out WCLU’s full postgame interview with Jeff Garmon below:
The Scotties are back in action next Friday, October 4th when they travel to Franklin-Simpson to take on the Wildcats. Franklin-Simpson leads the series, 6-5 against the Scotties dating back to 1998.
