Johnnie William Cross, 68, of Tompkinsville, KY passed away Tuesday, September 3rd, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY.
Johnnie was born in Tompkinsville, KY on October 22, 1955, a son of the late Mary Elizabeth (Whitehead) and James David Cross.
He graduated from Tompkinsville High School Class of 1973 and then later went to Lindsey Wilson and Eastern University, where he graduated. Johnny was a faithful member of Tompkinsville First Baptist Church. He worked as a mechanic at Wallace’s Service Center and at Hodges Service Station.
Johnnie was a faithful member of the Order of The Eastern Star for many years at Bethlehem Chapter 538, & was a dual member at Edmonton 470, He served the chapter with love & pride. He held the office of Secretary & Treasurer & has been Worthy Patron for several years. He was appointed Deputy Grand Patron serving several times. He was appointed Grand Representative in 2016. Johnnie played Santa Clause every year at the Road to Bethlehem. He had a big heart for his Eastern Star sisters and brothers and always had a smile and was always laughing. Bethlehem & Edmonton chapter will miss him!
Johnnie became a member of Tompkinsville H.A.M. Henderson Lodge #515 in 1979. He was still an active member. During his 45 year commitment to the lodge he served as Secretary for 20 years. Johnnie was also an honorary member at the Masonic lodges in Edmonton #931 and Halfway #852.
Johnnie married Vickie Bartley on August 2, 1985 at Indian Creek Baptist Church.
Johnnie is survived by his wife, Vickie Cross, of Tompkinsville, KY; a daughter, Cathy Lynn Vanhatten, of Glasgow, KY; two sons, David Earl Cross, of Tompkinsville, KY and Christopher Michael Cross, of Glasgow, KY; three grandchildren, Taylor Santos, Gavin Spears, and Teagan Cross and three great grandchildren, Mia and Atticus Santos and Kingston Spears.
Johnnie is also survived by a sister, Lula Shirley, of Tompkinsville, KY; three brothers, Abe Lee Cross, of Fountain Run, KY; David W. Cross, and wife, Helen, of Glasgow, KY; and James Mark Cross, of Tompkinsville, KY.
Other than his parents, Johnnie is preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Ann Curtis.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 6th at Tompkinsville First Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Bethlehem Cemetery.
Visitation is Thursday, 4-8 p.m. at Yokley Trible Funeral Home, Eastern Star Services will begin at 6:00 p.m., and Masonic Services at 7:00 p.m.
Visitation on Friday morning will be held from 9:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. at Tompkinsville First Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Johnnie’s memory may be made to Tompkinsville First Baptist Church or H.A.M. Henderson Lodge #515.
