January 2004 – The Progress

1-1-2004 – Barren County 4-Hers receive recognition – Jamie Edwards, Stacy Collins, Brian Lovell, Tisha Davis, Lindsie Kinslow, Miranda Tarry, Laura Thompson, Dave Atwell, Carrie Tilghman and Andy Joe Moore.

The Alyne Reneau grants for Handicapped Children, $30,000 plus were given to Barren County YMCA, Community Relief and Kids on the Block.

2003 Year in Review highlights – Ongoing construction of Outer Loop, New Industrial Park on 68/80, National Guard 623rd deployed in support of Operation Noble Eagle and Operation Enduring Freedom.

Accidents claim two lives in Barren County,  Judith Gosnell and James Chapman over the Christmas Holiday.

AD – Cooper Clayton Smoking Cessation Class starts January 5, 2004.

Asst. Fire Chief Bobby Bunnell is sworn in as Interim Fire Chief. Former Chief Steve Ray retired 12-31-03.

1-15-2004 – Glasgow/Barren County Chamber names outstanding Volunteer – Gina Glover Lyon, Athena Award – Melanie Watson and Farmer of the Year – Greg Ritter.

SCRTC Service awards – Fred Proffitt – 20 years, Casey Evans, Harold Thompson, Tommie Kaye Thomas and Mitchell Pedigo – 10 years, Tim Durham and Tony Brown – 15 years and Bonnie Sherfey – 30 years. Jimmy Houchens, Mike Houchens, Linda Lessenberry, Rickey Spillman, Jeff Eaton, Orval Brooks and Lyndall Bragg – 25 years.

Ernie Award Winners at Chamber of Commerce banquet were Marcus Kingrey, Erica B Nesbitt and Bud Tarry.

1-22-2004 – Martin Luther King, Jr. Days celebrated in Glasgow, Barren County and surrounding areas.

AARP honors Ruby Smith for her work as a volunteer for the past 20 years.

BCHS Homecoming is Friday, January 23rd when they take on the Bowling Green Purples.

Glasgow Lady Scotties swimmers place 3rd in Best of the West competition.

City Government Month is proclaimed in Glasgow.

1-29-2004 – Eagle Scout Candidate Florencio Oliver, worked on restoration of the Barren River Lake Corps of Engineering Quarry Road Playground. He was assisted by fellow members of the Troop 848, Shepherdsville.

R R Donnelley awards 4 grants to Glasgow Schools.

Everett Hensley celebrated his 86th birthday with his 6 children in Canmer on January 19th.

Patrika Barlow was crowned BCHS Homecoming Queen.
