The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s District 3 has released its latest traffic impact report, outlining expected work and lane changes for the week of April 17 through April 24. All work is subject to change.
In Barren County, a major safety and efficiency project is underway along a roughly nine-mile stretch of KY 90, also known as Happy Valley Road. According to District 3, the work runs from near Sanders Street at mile point 0.2 to the U.S. 68 Veterans Outer Loop near mile point 8.5, impacting the key corridor between Glasgow and Cave City. The project adds alternating passing lanes and new turn lanes at points along the route. Crews are also performing drainage and shoulder improvements, guardrail work, passing lane extensions and vegetation trimming in various spots.
Metcalfe County
U.S. 68 (from near KY 729 to KY 745) – A project to improve safety and mobility along a section of U.S. 68 in Green and Metcalfe Counties has started. The project will realign U.S. 68 from near KY 729 in Green County to KY 745 in Metcalfe County. The 1.2 miles of new alignment will feature 11-foot travel lanes with 4-foot paved shoulders. The new alignment is designed to reduce curvature and grade variations and will include construction of a new bridge over Caney Fork Creek. Motorists should use caution in this area.
U.S. 68 (at the intersection with KY 70) – An intersection safety improvement project is expected to begin on U.S. 68 in Metcalfe County. The intersection of U.S. 68 and KY 70 will be reconstructed to a new alignment just to the east of the current intersection. Motorists should use caution in this area.
Warren County
U.S. 31-W (mile points 20.9 to 22.5) – The project to widen U.S. 31-W in northern Warren County continues. The project widens U.S. 31-W from U.S. 68 to Mizpah Road. Traffic has been switched onto the new section of road, but it is two-way traffic for now. There is one travel lane in each direction. Crews will begin working on the other side of the road. McGinnis Quarry Road remains closed.
KY 185 – Two improvement projects on KY 185 have started. Lane closures can be expected between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. along the corridor. The realignment section of KY 185 will create a new road to the east of the current KY 185, starting near Runner Road and tying back into the current KY 185 just south of KY 1320 (Penns Chapel Road). The HSIP section of the project is from KY 1320 to near Jack Simmons Road, 1.26 miles in length. Drainage improvements and ditching will be a part of this project.
U.S. 31-W (From KY 234 to Park Street) – A project to widen the U.S. 31-W Bypass to five lanes from KY 234 to Park Street in northern Bowling Green has started. A long-term construction zone has been set up, narrowing traffic to one lane in each direction with a center turn lane. This is for the construction zone only. The project is expected to be completed sometime in 2027. Delays and traffic queues should be expected.
