GLASGOW — A handful of contracts between the Barren Fiscal Court and area healthcare employers are expected to be processed within the coming days, which means premium payouts will head to more local healthcare workers.

The premium payouts are a part of a package approved by magistrates earlier this year to recognize healthcare employees in Barren County who worked during the height of the pandemic. The court committed $1 million to the local healthcare sector from American Rescue Plan Act funding they received.

People who applied for the one-time check worth $950 were held to certain criteria set forth by the court such as length and location of employment. Krista Steenbergen was hired several months ago by the court to oversee the project. She vetted over 900 names and determined about half of those who applied for the premium pay were actually eligible.

Each employer must sign an agreement before the county will issue the lump sum payments. Those employers are then expected to disburse the money to each eligible employee. There were 44 healthcare employers with eligible staff members, according to an earlier report.

Some employers have either not returned their contracts due to delays with corporate offices or have not had it processed yet, Steenbergen said. Records obtained by WCLU News show 29 checks were sent to various healthcare employers in the county. Those are listed below.
