GLASGOW — The Glasgow Independent School Board of Education has selected Chad Muhlenkamp to serve as the school system’s next superintendent.
Members of the Board of Education met Friday evening at the Glasgow High School Library with all members present, including Tom Davis, the board’s attorney, and Larry Hammond, the interim superintendent of GIS.
Dr. Amelia Kiser was not at the meeting but participated electronically.
The meeting began by all members agreeing to go into closed session using an exception defined in state law. That except was KRS 61.810(1)(f) – it permits discussions which might lead to the appointment of an individual employee.
After meeting in closed session for about 10 minutes, the board resumed the meeting. Mary Burchett-Bower, board member, explained the superintendent selection process and thanked all the individuals involved.
The Board conducted interviews with the four finalists and Bower said “all were highly qualified and passionate about education.”
Dr. Barret Lessenberry made the motion to hire Muhlenkamp and begin contract negotiations. Davis is expected to begin those contract discussions with Muhlenkamp soon. Dr. William Thornbury seconded the motion, and the vote was unanimous. No additional discussion was held.
It is not clear when the contact will be discussed and finalized. A media timeline released earlier this year detailed plans to name a superintendent by Aug. 1, which is the day the person would assume their duties. Details about whether that timeline will still be followed were not mentioned Friday evening.
Students will return to school on Monday, Aug. 29. The official opening day for staff is Friday, Aug. 26.
