Monroe County, southern locations to expect severe weather impacts

GLASGOW, Ky. — The latest update from meteorologists across the area indicate severe thunderstorms are moving into south central Kentucky. Strong winds are expected to hit southern Kentucky shortly after 4 a.m.

As for the south central Kentucky region, a severe thunderstorm warning remains in place through 4:15 a.m. A tornado watch remains in place through 9 a.m. Straight line winds are the main concern.

Fountain Run is expected to severe weather around 4:11 a.m. Tompkinsville is expected to be impacted around 4:24 a.m. Parts of southern Barren County and Metcalfe County are expected to be impacted closer to 5 a.m.

Reported damages include downed power lines, a blown transformer along Kentucky 255, collapsed structures like small buildings and several structural damages in Bowling Green.

The Glasgow EPB estimates around 6,000 people are without power, according to GEPB Spokesperson Aaron Russell. Farmers RECC data indicates 2.593 customers are without power as of 3:45 a.m.

The greater Nashville area was hit early Saturday morning around 3 a.m. Much of northern and central Tennessee continues to be under a tornado warning through 4 a.m. Several tornadoes are in the greater Nashville area, according to reports from Nashville’s News Channel 5 meteorologists.

A new tornado warning was issued around 3:45 a.m. for Sumner County in Tennessee.
