GLASGOW Ky. – Thursday evening both Barren County and Glasgow School Boards met in special session to discuss the Tax Rates for 2021-2022 Fiscal Year.

Glasgow Independent Schools voted to take the max increase allowed, 4%.

This does not mean that taxes will increase by 4%, it means the amount of revenue generated by the tax will be a 4% increase from the previous year. On a $100,000 piece of property, the 4% increase will result in about $24 extra dollars. Dr. Barrett Lessenberry was the sole vote against the increase.

The next scheduled Glasgow board meeting is on October 11.

On the flip side, the Barren County Board of Education voted unanimously NOT to raise tax rates.

Tax rates will remain the same as they were last year.  In other business, the board also approved various requests for school fundraisers including the Pink Out scheduled for the October 1st football game at Barren County High School.  This event will raise money for breast cancer research.

Barren County Superintendent Bo Matthews told WCLU News, “I deeply appreciate the hard work of our board members and their commitment to our community.  They go above and beyond in their service to our students, staff, and families.”

The next scheduled Barren County board meeting is on October 14.
