KSP Investigating Fatal Collision in Todd County

Guthrie, Ky. (Todd County) – On October 1, 2020, around 7:53 PM, the Kentucky State Police Post 2, Madisonville, was requested by the Todd County Sheriff’s Department to investigate a two vehicle collision in the 6000 block of US 79, in the Guthrie community.

Preliminary investigation revealed James Gilkey, 72, of Clarksville, Tn., was operating a 2006 Ford F-150 southbound on US 79. Rose Coblentz, 62, of Guthrie, Ky., was operating a farm tractor, southbound on US 79. Near the intersection of US 79 and KY 848, Gilkey failed to observe Coblentz on the roadway, and the front of his truck struck the rear of the tractor. Coblentz was ejected from the cab of the tractor, after it exited the southbound shoulder of the roadway, and overturned.

Rose Coblentz was transported by ComCare EMS to Tennova Healthcare in Clarksville, Tn., where she was pronounced deceased. James Gilkey was not treated for injuries sustained in the collision. The investigation is ongoing by Trooper John Eilert.
