GLASGOW, Ky. – The Barren County Fiscal Court voted to support a set of six recommendations from a sub-committee of the Barren County Economic Authority in a special-called fiscal court meeting Wednesday.

Barren County Economic Authority chairperson, and magistrate, Carl Dickerson, said he fully supports the recommendations his committee made.

The recommendations would engage Barren County’s economic interests with those of Warren County.

“It is time to move forward with our economic development. It’s time that we come together,” Bowman said. “We are Barren County, whether you live in Cave City, Park City, the City of Glasgow or out in the county, this is Barren County. We need to work together, in unity, as one.”

The sub-committee recommended the Barren County Economic Authority enter a one-year contract with the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce. Dickerson said that would aid the local economy.

“This does not mean that Bowling Green is going to run our economic development. This means the way that the committee saw that was we need a bridge to help us get through until we get a director,” Dickerson said. “Whether that is right or wrong, I think it’s a good move. Bowling Green is booming.”

While the recommendations would strengthen the relationship with Warren County, County Judge/ Executive Micheal Hale said other relationships would be forfeited.

“I just feel like we’re putting them on the backburner,” Hale said. “I feel like when the new board gets in place, and they educate themselves, and they say ‘hey, this may be an option we do.’ I think that’s their decision to make.”

The other recommendations include the formation of an ad-hoc committee, complete replacement of the current board, to move the physical offices of the Barren County Economic Authority to the Barren County Chamber of Commerce offices, to make immediate purchase of land to build a speculative building and place one non-voting member from the Glasgow Independent School system and Barren County School system on the board.
