The 18th annual To the Brim Food Drive is set for Wednesday, Sept. 2, through Saturday, Sept. 5, in Glasgow, lining up once again with Labor Day week.

Organizers say the community event supports the Community Relief Fund’s food pantry and aims to meet ongoing hunger needs in Barren County.

Volunteers will staff three collection points across the city.

Donations will be accepted daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Houchens Southgate, Walmart and Ruler Foods, according to organizers.

Shoppers can drop off food items from suggested lists handed out by volunteers.

They can also choose to purchase $10 pre-packed bags at the register, allowing people who are unsure what to buy to still contribute quickly at checkout.

The drive comes as the Community Relief Fund settles into a new building on YMCA Way, purchased by Dr. Mody.

Organizers say the move has allowed the pantry to double in size, creating more room for food storage and expanding the ability to serve local families.

With that growth comes a larger need for donations to keep shelves stocked.

According to organizers, the food collected during the To the Brim Food Drive typically does not last beyond Christmas, even in a strong year.

They emphasize that hunger in Barren County does not end when the drive wraps up in early September.

Community members are encouraged to consider giving throughout the year, either by donating nonperishable food or making financial contributions so the pantry can purchase what is most needed.

Volunteers from a wide range of local businesses and organizations are expected to help staff the collection sites during the four-day event.

Organizers say long-time partners will return and some new groups are joining in this year to support the effort.

Supporters describe the drive as a reflection of Glasgow and Barren County’s strong volunteer spirit and commitment to neighbors in need.
