Dorothy Mae Petty Moats McCoy, 92 of Bowling Green, passed peacefully from this life and was welcomed into heaven by many of her loved ones on June 7, 2014. The Allen County native was born on Aug. 23, 1921, and was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Morton Petty and Lockie Augusta Tinsley Petty. She was a member of the United Calvary General Baptist Church.

Dorothy was the homemaker in the most literal sense; she made a house a home, filling it with love, no matter where or how humble it was. She was ever there for any and all in need, cooking for many; her door was always open. Forever selfless and putting others first, Dorothy epitomized God's love. She knew and understood the power of prayer, was never timid to let others know about her faith, and was adored by everyone who knew her. Dorothy's beautiful smile, sparkling eyes, and precious words of comfort and encouragement will be greatly missed by her family.

She was a beloved wife to the love of her life, Herbert Lavern Moats, staying by his side until his death, and then again she showed incredible compassion and love to Ewell Edward McCoy, also caring for and widowing him. She was preceded in death by three daughters, Patricia Moats, Venida Cline, and Mickie Hendricks; a son, Roger Moats; a grandson, Kenneth Moats; a granddaughter, Tammy Hughes; and a great granddaughter, Latisha Logan; three brothers, Freeman, Leonard and James Earl Petty; and a sister, Naomi Yokely.

Dorothy is survived by three sons, Herbert Moats (Janice) and Bobby Moats (Ann) of Bowling Green, and Rickie Moats (Diane) of Oakland; seven grandchildren, Dr. Steve Moats, of Nashville, Christy Brock (Rick), of Bowling Green, Donnie Moats (Cyndi) of Rockfield; Teresa Johnson (Country), Laticia Matthews, Jeremy Moats (Rachel) of Alvaton and Brandon Moats (Cody) of Bowling Green; 17 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel with burial at Martinsville Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday and 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
