GLASGOW – On Wednesday, joined by family members, coaches, and teammates, Jon Carter Walbert signed his letter of intent to play collegiate basketball at Transylvania University.

Walbert led the Scotties in scoring his senior season, averaging 15.2 points per game on 45.1% from field goal range. JC finished his high school career with 767 total points, while gathering 207 rebounds and going 76% from the free throw line.

“It’s very exciting,” said Walbert. “I get to go play what I’ve dreamed of doing for 15 years, so I really can’t explain it, just very excited.” “I had that feeling in my heart that this is where I want to go.” For the full interview with JC, click and listen below.

During Walbert’s playing career at GHS, he has been named to the 2023 15th District All-Season and All-Tournament Teams, the 2024 15th District All-Season, All-Tournament, and All-Academic Teams, the 2024 4th Region All-Tournament and 4th Region All-Season 2nd Teams, and was named the 2024 15th District Player of the Year. JC was a member of the 2024 15th District Championship Team, who made an appearance in the 4th Region Tournament Semifinals for the first time in 12 years.

“He’s a smart kid on and off the court,” said head coach Brandon Stockton. “His ability to score the basketball and his willingness to want to learn… That’s what coaches at the next level look for.” Listen to WCLU’s full interview with coach Stockton below.

Walbert made several game-changing plays during his time at GHS, including this clutch three-point shot at the buzzer to send the Scotties to the 15th District Championship during the 2023-24 season.

The Scotties captured the 15th District Championship and made it to the semi-finals of the 4th Region Tournament before falling to Warren Central 71-36. Glasgow finished the season with an 11-17 overall record, going 9-12 in region play and 5-4 in the district.

Walbert joins a Pioneer’s team that went 19-7 last season, averaging 82.1 points per game, while holding opponents to 76.0 points a game. Transylvania fell to Hanover College 78-64 in the first round of the HCAC Men’s Basketball Tournament in Indiana.
