Moped crash investigation underway near North Race, Front Street

GLASGOW — Police are investigating a moped and vehicle accident near downtown.

Aaron Russell, 21, witnessed the crash. He had just left work and was headed home around 4:36 p.m. He said he was driving northbound along North Race Street and had crossed the intersection at West Front Street near the laundromat. A moped followed.

That’s when a car barreled through the intersection from the other direction and hit the moped.

“I happened to look in my rearview mirror and saw a car run the redlight,” Russell said. “The car hit the moped at full speed.”

A man was lying on the ground after the impact. The vehicle, which was described to be a gray sedan, apparently continued to travel for at least 15 feet, Russell said.

Another passerby told WCLU News a subject was lying on the ground and appeared unresponsive. Russell said a woman was standing near the scene “bawling” and was detained in handcuffs by police.

“I didn’t even hear brakes squeal,” Russell said.

The man regained some consciousness and moved his hands, apparently. He was responsive when he was taken from the scene.

Authorities were still at there around 5:30 p.m. No additional details were provided.
