Council approves three appointments to local board, commission

GLASGOW — Three appointments to boards and commissions were approved Monday by the Glasgow City Council.

The Glasgow/ Barren County Tourist and Convention Commission received two new lodging representatives.

Amy Vann, a local Airbnb owner, and Sarah Young, general manager of Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Mammoth Cave, were approved by the council as appointees to the commission.

The tourist and convention commission appointments must be approved by the Glasgow Council and Barren Fiscal Court. The mayor of Glasgow and judge/ executive of Barren County make the recommendations, which are subject to both council and court approval.

Young position is secured since she was approved by the court at its most recent meeting. Her position expires June 25, 2025.

Vann, if approved by the court, will serve the unexpired term of Danny Sallee. The term expires June 30, 2023. Her appointment recommendation was received after the last fiscal court meeting and could not be added to the agenda until the July 19 meeting.

Vann owns “Race Street Retreat,” an Airbnb located along North Race Street in Glasgow and owns a property in Oxford, Miss., according to Airbnb.com.

The mayor also recommended Thomas Grubbs be appointed to fill an unexpired term on the Joint City/ County Planning Commission. Grubbs was approved to replace David Jessie whose term expires on June 30, 2024.
