GLASGOW — The Glasgow Independent School Board met in regular session at the Central Office Monday evening. Items on the agenda included updates to the new South Green Elementary School Construction project, the possible acquisition of real property and the next step in the process of finding a new superintendent.

In last month’s meeting, CEO of Alliance Corporation, Tommy Gumm, stated there could be a delay in the building project due to a national shortage of concrete.

Fortunately, these delays have been minimal. Gumm says there are other Alliance Corporation projects that are suffering from the cement rationing.

“I feel very fortunate here that we haven’t had any major holdups,” he said. “We’ve had a lot of work done the last 30 days.”

The insulated concrete form (ICF) is continuing to be built, floor slabs have been poured and, in the next few weeks, a roof structure will start to be seen.

“Our bar joists came in early, about thirty days earlier than we expected,” Gumm said. “So once we get to bearing height on the cafeteria and the gymnasium, we’ll see some roof structure in the next 30-45 days.

The work on the driveway and blacktop is progressing, according to Gumm. That area is scheduled to be complete before school starts.

Chad Muhlenkamp, Director of Facilities & Pupil Personnel, has been very impressed with the progress Alliance Corporation has made on the new school building, especially navigating through all the unexpected challenges.

“Alliance has been doing an outstanding job for us,” he told the board. “Especially with the concrete struggles and scheduling conflicts, they have been a great entity to be working with through this process and making sure we get the best product.”

Later in the meeting, the school board entered into closed session on two occasions. The first was for deliberations on the future acquisition of real property, according to the agenda. A closed session was decided due to the potential that publicity would likely affect the value of the specific piece of property that was to be acquired by a public agency.

The second closed session was to discuss the next step in the hiring process of the next superintendent. The media timeline, which was released by the screening committee, required that recommendations be made to the board. After an interview process, the new superintendent of Glasgow Schools will be revealed to the public on Monday, July 25.

No actions were taken during either closed session.
