Fire crews extinguish blaze caused by ‘illegal burning,’ GFD says

Jun 7, 2022 | 12:04 PM

GLASGOW — Local fire crews responded to an afternoon apartment fire Monday near Shank Lane.

The residents of the apartment were evacuated when fire crews arrived, according to a news release. The fire was evident along the “D” side of the structure.

Most of the fire was contained to the outside of the structure and indoor damage extended along the windows upstairs and downstairs of the apartment. Fire personnel said the fire’s cause was determined to be a result of illegal burning near the apartment complex.

The GFD said fire permits are required to burn any waste within the city limits of Glasgow and brush-like material is the only permissible material to be burned. Trash burning is not allowed.

Crews were on scene of the fire for about 1 1/2 hours, they said.
