GLASGOW — Authorities released more information Tuesday about the death of a child in Barren County.
The Barren County Sheriff’s Office said they responded to an address along North Lucas Road in reference to an unresponsive child on March 27, 2021. The child was 19 months old.
The toddler was transported to T.J. Samson Hospital and was later pronounced dead, according to a news release. Detectives allege there was suspicious bruising on the head of the child. An autopsy later revealed the child died from blunt impact to its head. The cause of death was ruled a homicide.
A Barren County grand jury heard the case on May 18 and returned four indictments. Warrants were served last Friday on four people.
Devin H. Pierce, 22, and Serenity S. Brown, 19, are both charged with murder. The two are expected to appear in Barren Circuit Court on Monday, June 6 at 10 a.m. They are being held at the Barren County Detention Center on a $500,000 cash bond.
Jessica L. Brown, 45, and Marty W. Brown, 59, were also arrested. They were charged with tampering with physical evidence and were being held on a $2,500 bond. They were released on Friday, according to jail records.
Authorities said they do not plan to release more information about the case due to pending court action.
