WASHINGTON — Interested college students and recent college graduates are urged to apply for a summer internship within the Office of Congressman Brett Guthrie.

Internships are available in Guthrie’s Washington and Bowling Green offices, he said. Different work is completed between the offices.

“The district office would be a good place for people with a social work background or who’s interested in social work,” Guthrie said. “But that’s not a requirement whatsoever – just someone wanting experience in a congressional office is all that’s required.”

Majors are not considered when applying to the program.

Among tasks completed in the offices, interns handle constituent services, answering phones and some assist in legislative research. They also attend briefings, hearings and committee meetings with the representative.

Congress adjourns in August, so interns are placed in the program earlier in the summer. Those coming later participate in “quieter” events like Capitol tours.

“One of the favorite things, if we can get the Capitol open again, is give tours to the tourists from the second district who come to see our beautiful Capitol building,” Guthrie said.

Interns must find housing and provide food for themselves. A stipend is provided to assist them.

The deadline to apply is Tuesday, March 15. Click here to find more information.
