Bela Grace (Basil) Turner

Bela Grace (Basil) Turner, 91, of the Flippin Community in Tompkinsville, KY passed away Friday, January 28th, at Signature Health Care of Monroe County.

Bela was born in Barren County, KY  on March 22,1930, a daughter of the late Pearl (Branham) Basil and James Dan Basil.

She married Lester Thomas Turner in May of 1949. Lester preceded her in death on May 10, 1997.

She was a member of the Original Indian Creek Baptist Church in Flippin, Kentucky. She worked as the Flippin Postmaster, was the owner of Flippin Grocery, a Factory Worker in Gamaliel and Glasgow. However, her most loved occupation was being a caregiver for 16 children.

Bela is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Theresa Turner Deckard, and Jerry, of Tompkinsville, KY; four grandchildren, Leslie Barlow (Paul), of Lexington, KY; Steven Scott Turner, of Fountain Run, KY; Lori Rolke (Trip), of Sachse, Texas; and Marci Turner of Murfreesboro, TN; four great grandchildren, Duncan Barlow, Riley Grace Rolke, Hayden Barlow and Freddy Rolke.

Also surviving is one sister, Barbara Shank, of Indianapolis, IN; and two brothers, Gene Basil of Bowling Green, KY and Bruce Basil of Edmonton, KY.

Other than her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by two sons, Lester “Tommy” Turner and Steven Basil Turner; seven sisters, Nina Shaw, Inez Pedigo, Lauree McKee, Eloise Cash, Peggy Cowles, Juanita Poynter and Toni Galin; three brothers, James D. Basil, Jr., Remus Basil and Ralph Basil.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Yokley Trible Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Monroe County Memorial Lawn.

Visitation is Friday, from 4-8 PM and Saturday, 9:00 AM until service time at 1:00 PM at Yokley Trible Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bela’s memory may be made to the Flippin Fire Department or Tompkinsville First Baptist Church Christian Life Center Fund.
