CAVE CITY, Ky. – A traffic stop along Interstate 65 in Cave City Wednesday yielded one arrest and several thousand dollars of drugs confiscated.

Kentucky State Police troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 2012 Chevrolet Spark passenger vehicle, according to a news release.  The vehicle was stopped along the Interstate 65 entrance ramp from KY-70 for a traffic violation.

Troopers were granted consent to search the vehicle. Authorities identified the driver as Victor Rodriguez, 31, of Newark, N.J.

Approximately 7.5 pounds of suspected fentanyl was located during the search.  The suspected fentanyl was discovered in pill form and had been tightly wrapped and vacuum sealed.

Rodriguez was arrested and lodged in the Barren County Detention Center. Rodriguez faces charges relating to trafficking in a controlled substance (fentanyl), license to be in possession, first degree promoting contraband and failure to or improper signal.

Further investigation Thursday led to the discovery of 2.2 pounds of suspected cocaine also in the vehicle.  Charges stemming from the cocaine are pending at this time. The investigation is ongoing and being led by Trooper Jordan Matthews.
