Metcalfe County Elementary School Back to School Bash will be held today from 12:00pm-6:00pm for Preschool, 2 grade, 3 grade, and 5 grade.  First day of school is Monday, August 30 and preschool begins September 7.

Metcalfe County Middle School Back to School Bash will be held this Wednesday from 12:00pm-6:00pm.  First day of school is Monday, August 30 and preschool begins September 7.

Temple Hill SBDM will have its regular monthly meeting this Wednesday, August 18 at 4:00PM.  This meeting is open to the public.

Park City Elementary SBDM Council will meet this Wednesday, August 18 at 4PM via goggle meet.  If interested in attending call 749-5665.
Metcalfe County Elementary School Back to School Bash will be held this Thursday from 12:00pm-6:00pm for Kindergarten, 1 grade and 4 grades.  First day of school is Monday, August 30 and preschool begins September 7.

Metcalfe County High School Back to School Bash will be held this Thursday from 3 to 5PM. This is for all high school students.

Registration is ongoing for the Glasgow Parks and Recreation Fall Soccer Signups through Friday, August 27.  The cost is $45, $40 for second child and $35 for additional children in the same family. Coaches are needed.  Register online at glasgow.recdesk.com.

 The Glasgow Transit System is reducing services due to Covid Quarantine Staffing Issues.  The hours will now be 6:45AM to 11:10AM and then 11:45AM to 2:30PM. Use bus #60 on time table on the current schedules.

The annual Branstetter Park Music Festival and 95th Homecoming will be this Saturday, August 21 and Sunday, August 22.  The park is located near the intersection of Highway 90 and Highway 163 about one mile east of Summer Shade.  There will be entertainment, games for children and traditional arts and crafts and concessions will be available.  The Sunday service will begin at 10AM with a community church service with Brother Willie Dale Westmoreland delivering the message. Gospel singing in the afternoon.

The AM Book Discussion Club will meet at 10AM on Thursday, August 26 at the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library. The book selection is “The Dollmaker” by Harriette Simpson Arnow. Pick up your copy now at the circulation desk and join the group for discussion.

The ladies of Boutique Unique are back to make cute wood pennant banners. Supply fee will be based on the phase you choose and will include the banner shape, letters, fall shapes, jute string, paint and materials. Register, specify your choice and pay at the library by August 25.  Class is limited to 15 people.

The Barren County Historical Society will present the life of Howard Scott Magers on Saturday, August 28 at 11am. This event will be held at the South Central Kentucky Cultural Center. Paula Ratliff Pedigo will be the speaker.

Concerned Citizens and Teachers along with local Family Resource Coordinators are banning together to host a golf Scramble to raise money for underprivileged children in need at Christmas in the Barren County, Glasgow and Caverna School Systems.  The “Angels for Angels” Scramble will be on September 22 at Barren River State Park.  Teams of four players can be entered, with an entry fee of 65 dollars each.  Be sure to enter your team as someone is going to win a new vehicle from Don Franklin Automotive.  Lots of other prizes will be awarded. The deadline to enter is September 1.  Call Catherine Brantley at 270-590 1154 and register today.  Locally businesses are invited to be a hole sponsor, tee box and food sponsors as a part of this big benefit golf scramble to help underprivileged children at Christmas. Angels for Angels from Concerned Citizens and Teachers and Family Resource Coordinators in this area.

In addition to City of Glasgow City Hall, the following City of Glasgow Department of Public Works offices will be closed on Monday, September 6 in observance of the Labor Day holiday, Street, Sanitation, Transit, Stormwater and the Landfill Department. The Landfill will also be closed on Saturday, September 4.  Monday garbage and recycling will be collected on Tuesday, September 7.  Please have all garbage and recycling at the curbside by 7:00am on Tuesday, September 7.

American Red Cross Kentucky Region disaster volunteers are trained to respond to all types of disaster and “Heroes Needed” is a great opportunity for new volunteers with no disaster training to become Red Cross “Heroes” in just a few days. You will receive basic skills to become a disaster responder in Sheltering or Health Services and learn more about the Red Cross. Mary Wood Weldon Library is launching a new program in September where you can work on craft projects and chat with other crafters.  Bring your own project or work on one provided by the library on Wednesday, September 8 at 10am.

Down Syndrome of South Central Kentucky, 23rd Annual Step Up for Down Syndrome will be at the Bowling Green Ballpark on September 18. Gates will open at 10:00 am and walk begins at 11:30 am. Whether you have Down Syndrome, know someone who does, or just want to show your support, take the first step and donate or register today as we unite for a common cause and raise funds. Metcalfe County Relay for Life is scheduled for Saturday, September 18 at the Metcalfe County High School gym. The gym will be open to the public at 6:00 pm with entertainment by the Hornet Nest Pickers. There will also be delicious concessions prepared by Heart and Soul Catering by Phyllis Dean Stone Thompson and family. Opening ceremony will begin at 7:00PM and we will have special speakers and a presentation of our survivors, walk some laps, have a luminary ceremony at 8:00, followed with music by Glorified. We will finish with a closing ceremony at 9:30.

Your local DAV Chapter 20 will provide you a free ride to Robley Rex VA hospital or any other VA clinic in the Louisville. These runs are made on Mondays only so be sure to schedule accordingly.  If you need a ride call 270-749-4907 to confirm your appointment and ride there.

T J Samson Stroke Ahead Support Group will meet each Tuesday at 4:30PM. This is for people who have had a stroke or suffered some other type of brain trauma.  For more information call Emily Grinstead at 659-5650.

Highland Hills Church has a food pantry every Wednesday from 4PM until 6PM and Saturday 9 to 11AM. Anyone that is in need of food may come. The church is located on Broadway in Glasgow.

T J Health offers a bereavement support group that meets the third Monday of each month from 2 to2:30pm.  If you would like to attend please call Loretta Boone at 651-4430.

The DAV will assist the Disable Veterans with their claims each Tuesday from 8AM to 12noon at the Lera B Mitchell Clubhouse.
