Glasgow City Council discusses Strategic plan

Oct 13, 2020 | 11:01 AM

The Glasgow City Council gave unanimous approval Monday  night in acknowledging the 2020 strategic plan.  Committee chair, councilman Terry Bunnell explained the committee would meet in the next couple of weeks, and he encouraged citizens to go to the City of Glasgow website and look at the plan under the ‘strategic planning’ tab.  Bunnell said there are 6 committees that community members are needed to serve on :Ag Committee, Reimagining Downtown, Housing, Economic Workforce Development and Entrepreneurship,  Arts and Entertainment and Trail Development.  Kevin Myatt, manager of the joint City/County planning commission is the point person as the work begins.

At the  September 28th  meeting the council began to consider divesting their trusteeship in the Lera B. Mitchell Clubhouse.  The city took it over in 1978, and the city has been defraying the costs ever since.  For several years informal discussions have occurred that other groups could become the trustee other than the city.  The original purpose of the Lera B. Mitchell clubhouse was to provide a place for the DAR, the Glasgow Garden Club, the B and PW Club and the Matinee Musicale to meet.

Last week, members of those groups met to learn more.  Mayor Armstrong attended that meeting and reported to the council that all four of those  groups were represented and a couple of potential trustees were as well.  Armstrong said the city was going to sit on the sideline while these parties discuss the future.  He says they will give them until July 1, 2021 to come up with an agreement.

The mayor said the council doesn’t’ want any of those served by the clubhouse to be effected, even those who play bridge and billiards as a part of recreation.

2 reappointments were  approved Monday night.  R.P. Watson to the Code Enforcement board and Buddy Underwood, water and sewer commission.  Both are 3 year terms.
