Glasgow News 1

Southern Living is recommending Glasgow, as a November getaway, highlighting its proximity to Mammoth Cave National Park and a holiday shopping event involving nearly 20 local businesses. The magazine includes the town in its recommendation to consider smaller Southern destinations before the holidays.

“If you’re interested in planning a November trip this year, we recommend skipping the buzzy cities in favor of small Southern towns,” Southern Living posted online.

The magazine’s broader travel recommendation points readers toward laid-back coastal retreats, peaceful mountain communities and destinations where fall colors arrive later than in other parts of the country. Its Glasgow description focuses on the historic town, access to Mammoth Cave and an opportunity to begin holiday shopping.

Southern Living said Glasgow has small town appeal, but a good location between Louisville and Nashville that may fly under travelers’ radar. It being about 20 minutes from Mammoth Cave National Park is a bonus. It recommends setting aside at least one day to visit what it describes as the world’s longest known cave system.

For travelers visiting Nov. 5-7, the magazine highlights Glasgow’s Hometown Christmas Open House. Nearly 20 local businesses participate, according to the magazine.

Shoppers receive punch cards that can be stamped at each location, Southern Living said. Cards can be turned in for a chance to win a gift basket, and there will be cookies, hot chocolate and photos with Santa.
