Caverna High School will host College App Day from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24. Gifted and talented coordinator Jessie Hampton said colleges from around Kentucky will talk with seniors about applying.
The event is intended to help seniors consider and pursue their plans after graduation. Hampton said helping students reach the future they want is an important goal for Caverna educators.
Students will have another opportunity to explore college options Wednesday, when they attend a regional college fair at Western Kentucky University.
Hampton said all Caverna High School students in the gifted and talented program are enrolled in dual-credit courses. Some juniors and seniors are taking classes at Western’s Glasgow campus, and Hampton said many of those students like Western and may continue their degrees there.
Caverna also partners with Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College to provide some dual-credit courses within the high school. Hampton said the school now offers a growing number of those courses.
A recent partnership with Bluegrass CTC will provide credit for Caverna’s biomed and graphic design pathways, according to Hampton. She said students planning to attend Western could complete high school with more than 30 college credits.
Hampton described dual credit as an opportunity for advanced students to begin college-level work before graduating from high school. She also said earning those credits can provide financial savings for parents.
