Glasgow’s 2026 city tax rate will get its first public reading Monday as the city council meets to consider a new ordinance for the upcoming fiscal year.
The ordinance establishing the 2026-27 fiscal year tax rate for the City of Glasgow is scheduled for a first reading during the Sept. 14 meeting. The city council finance committee recommend a rate of 16.4 cents per $100 of assessed value at its meeting last Thursday.
The committee settled on what the Kentucky Department for Local Government calls a “substitute rate,” bringing to a close the discussion that began during its August meeting when an unusual shift in the city’s tax base left officials considering an option they had not encountered in recent years.
Glasgow’s current property tax rate is 16.5 cents per $100 of assessed value. The recommended substitute rate would lower that by one-tenth of a cent while still generating more revenue than the 16.2-cent compensating rate calculated for the city this year.
Council members are expected to open the meeting by approving the night’s agenda and signing off on minutes from the Aug. 24 City Council meeting.
The council will then move to presentations, including a joint city and county proclamation with the Daughters of the American Revolution.
The Glasgow Police Department is also scheduled for a presentation recognizing promotions within the department.
Under old business, city officials have listed two second readings that would update local rules.
One ordinance would amend the text of the city’s zoning regulations, which are codified as Chapter 158 of the Glasgow code of ordinances.
A second ordinance would amend Chapter 111 of the city code, which relates to outdoor advertising.
