Economic authority opens Round 2 of sign scholarship program

The Barren County Economic Authority has opened a second round of its sign scholarship program, offering local businesses help paying for upgraded storefront signage.

The program is designed to support small business retention and expansion while improving the look and marketing power of business districts across the county.

The sign scholarship is funded by German American Bank, according to a press release from Barren Inc. The bank is sponsoring the program to help boost economic activity by making it easier for small businesses to invest in their signage.

Under the program guidelines, funds will be distributed as a one-to-one match up to $1,000 per approved project. Money is paid after the new sign is installed and the business presents receipts.

To qualify, applicants must operate a Barren County based business with a brick-and-mortar location. They also must be a member of Barren, Inc., the local chamber and economic development organization.

The application period opens Monday, May 18, and runs through July 3.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, in the order they are received, until all scholarship funds are depleted.

The second round continues the authority’s broader mission to retain and support existing businesses and encourage their growth in Barren County.
